The Buchan Heritage Society has announced its winners for this year's prose and poetry competition which celebrates the Doric language.
Held annually, the competition encourages young and old to explore the dialect of the north-east in a creative form, and sees entries in both traditional and contemporary topics.
As well as young winners from several local primary schools including Strichen and Fyvie, amongst the winners this year is well known Doric champion Deborah Leslie, whose entry The Quine in The Flooerie Frock was a short story written entirely in Doric which was awarded the first prize in the open prose category.
In it Anna unpacks a treasured dress that takes her spinning down the years to the summer of 1952 and a meeting of hearts at Aberdeen’s famous Beach Ballroom.
As she explained: "The story is about the challenges of getting older, loss, change, acceptance, and a love that endures. "
