Following the passing eastwards this evening of Storm Malik, a new Amber Weather Warning for Storm Corrie has been issued by the Met Office.

High winds associated with Storm Corrie will spread eastwards across Scotland from around 5pm Sunday before easing early on Monday.

In coastal areas and over hills and mountains gusts are expected to peak at 70-80 mph.

There are still 25,000 homes are without power across the area and to help support communities Live Life Aberdeenshire sites (those with power) will open tomorrow at 9am to anyone that need a shower, power and heat.

Deeside Community Centre, Aboyne Banchory Sports Village, Turriff Swimming Pool Fraserburgh Community and Sports Centre , Stonehaven Leisure Centre and Inverurie Community Campus

Roads teams have been out throughout the day clearing roads and assessing damage, overnight the roads temperatures are due to drop and gritter teams will be out tomorrow morning to grit all passable roads.

All reports of fallen trees and damage should be reported to Police Scotland on 101.

Council tenants should call 03456 08 12 03 to report any damage and requests for emergency repairs.

SSEN Update

Following the significant damage caused by Storm Malik on Saturday ncombined with the potential impacts of Storm Corrie on Sunday 3, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has moved to Red Alert status for its north of Scotland licence area.

To support communities SSEN has deployed food trucks across Aberdeenshire - this is the list as of 8.30pm for Sunday.

Aviemore, Forestry Commission Car Park, Cairngorm Road – Whytes Food Van from 8am.

Banff, Banff Springs Hotel layby - The One Pot Stop – Sunday 9am–3pm.

Dulnain Bridge, Roches Moutonnees Carpark – Highland Hog Roast Food Van from 8am.

Ellon – Fish & Chips (timing and location TBC)

Fyvie, outside the Co-op– Steak Bar – from 8am.

Insch, the school car park – Fish & Chips – from 8am.

Kemnay, Aquithie Road – Steak Bar – from 8am.

Kintore, Chip Shop – Fish & Chips – from 8am.

Macduff, The Knowes Hotel – 9am-2pm and then 5pm-8pm.

Methlick – Fish & Chips (timing and location TBC)

Oldmeldrum, High School – Steak Bar – from 8am.

Tarland, The Square – Steak Bar –from 8am.

Whitehills, The Galley Seafood Restaurant & Café – noon-3pm.

Customers unable to access welfare facilities and who remain off supply may claim back the cost of meals up to £15 per person.

Customers are being asked to keep copies of receipts for any claims and any vulnerable customer who requires alternative arrangements but is unable to arrange themselves, is encouraged to contact SSEN’s teams by calling 105.

Director of Distribution System Operations at SSEN, Richard Gough said: “Having now assessed the full impact of Storm Malik and as we prepare for the arrival of Storm Corrie, we have now increased our alert status to Red Alert.

“Whilst our teams have made good progress and have restored power to the majority of customers affected by Storm Malik, due to the extent of damage caused, alongside the likely impact of Storm Corrie, we expect the full restoration of customer supplies from both storms to extend across multiple days.

“We are therefore notifying all customers who remain off supply that they may want to consider making alternative arrangements, where possible.

“We would like to apologise to all customers affected and would like to reassure them that our teams are doing all they can to restore power as quickly as possible, where it is safe to do so.

Rail travel

Due to these very strong winds, there will be a phased withdrawal of ScotRail services by 6pm on Sunday.

Then all ScotRail services will be withdrawn after 6pm - travellers are advised to check all journeys as a 40mpg limit is also in place on most routes.
