Banff and Buchan councillors have been updated on the improvement action plan for Durnhythe Care Home in Portsoy.

In July last year the Care Inspectorate carried out an unannounced inspection at the Aberdeenshire Council operated home, which raised a number of issues.

In two of the criteria the home was rated as weak and in the other three was assessed as adequate.

It particularly raised "significant concerns" with the management of medication.

It also outlined that staff shortages were affecting the level of care.

After the inspection report an action plan was developed and has since been implemented.

At the digital meeting of the Banff and Buchan area committee on Tuesday, councillors were updated on the latest developments.

In the report that went before councillors it said: "On receipt of the first Care Inspectorate report, senior management immediately convened an improvement group to provide support to the care home to develop and implement an action plan and this group continues to monitor progress.

"The audit committee was made aware of the regular monitoring and support of progress across all aspects of the approved action plan, with the focus to remain on implementing robust self-evaluation on an ongoing basis for the care home."

At the audit committee's May meeting it considered a stage one referral report from the lead officer at Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

The report added: "It considered the actions taken by the service and the feedback report on the Care Inspectorate follow up visit, and was satisfied that the stage one scrutiny report provided the committee with sufficient assurances on the matter, and that the matter not be progressed to stage two scrutiny nor referred to the Integration Joint Board audit committee.

"The audit committee also agreed that the Banff and Buchan Area Committee receive regular update reports on progress and the first of these updates is expected in September 2020."

During the digital meeting councillors had no issue with the report and they will be updated on the situation next month.
