The 1st Banff Boys' Brigade held its annual display and presentation of trophies in the BB Hall on Friday evening before an audience of family and friends.

The inspecting officer was John Cox who presented trophies to boys of the Company section while his wife Adelaine handed over awards to the Junior section.

The evening was opened and closed with prayers offered by parish church representative Moira Gess while the compere introducing the activities was Jim Buchan.

The boys provided an evening of entertainment including music from the Company trumpet band, a variety of team games, gymnastics and maze marching.

To finish an entertaining programme Mr Cox presented the top BB award The Queen's Badge to Fraser McKenzie and The President's Badge to Andrew Chalmers.

The Queen's Badge award scheme aims to challenge and equip the individual, provide new opportunities and expand horizons while remaining accessible to young people of all abilities.

A young person wishing to work towards their Queen’s Badge must first have completed their President’s Badge.

It offers the chance to engage with the local community, take on responsibility, set personal goals, build self-confidence and experience a sense of achievement.

To achieve the badge activities that have to be completed include participating in skills-based training; taking responsibility within the Boys' Brigade or church; providing voluntary service or support to others in the wider community and developing interests such as skills, physical activity or expedition.

The President's Badge is the organisation's second highest award and activities that have to be completed to achieve it include gaining a Core Activity Award; volunteering in the company or church; completing a Faith Journey element and a skills building course.
