In 2017, Joe Bunyan left a career in consulting to pursue his goal of becoming a film director, creating his debut documentary feature which received critical and public acclaim.

Gitonga tells the story of passionate hiker Gitonga Wandai, as he sets out to inspire his son and his nation by becoming the first black Kenyan to climb Mount Everest.

Through his work, Joe explores the beauty and complexities of people, perspectives and the world itself.

His journey has taken him across the world where he has met countless unsung heroes.

In his Inspiring People talks for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society next month, he will share stories of the incredible people he has encountered, the lessons he has learned, and how he has applied his experiences across a variety of sectors: film, sport, government projects, and education.

Joe commented “I’m hugely excited about the prospect of meeting so many new people across Scotland. I’m a firm believer that each of us has the potential to make a positive difference in life - how we might do this is a question I have been fascinated with from a young age, and one which I'll explore in these talks. "

If my imperfect and random journey or the unsung heroes I've met along the way can inspire just one person to pursue a dream, or to realise their own value - even if it’s just my mum on the front row - then I’ll be chuffed to bits.

"I look forward to seeing you there and look forward to hearing your own personal stories!”
