Mieke Guijt and husband Jan Guijit set up Grampian Campervan Hire in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Their company, after only a handful of years, was announced the winner of best self-catering accommodation experience at the 2023 Aberdeen City and Shire Thistle Awards on September 22.

The couple, both born in the Netherlands, decided to set up their business after falling in love with exploring Scotland, having moved here in 2006.

Nine campervans are now part of their for-hire fleet, along with accommodation on a registered campsite which opened earlier this year.

Mieke handles day-to-day operations of the firm, supported by Jan and their children Darren and Lillian.

Announcing the award success at a recent ceremony held at The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen, judges commented on the passion, dedication and enthusiasm for the winning family business, noting it was a delight to see the whole family involved to ensure the business runs smoothly and efficiently.

After receiving the award, Mrs Guijt said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive this accolade, which acknowledges the hard work and dedication our whole family has committed to Grampian Campervan Hire.

"To be recognised amongst the best tourism businesses in the north east of Scotland only a few years after starting our business is an amazing achievement.

"Our biggest motivation is always ensuring our customers have a great experience when they visit our region, and we are always keen to share advice and tips with them to make their trips memorable and enjoyable.

"We are delighted that our passion and commitment have been noted by both our customers and the local tourism industry, and we will continue to deliver this high level of service as we grow the business.”

Grampian Campervan Hire now progresses to the Scotland wide final of the Thistle Awards which takes place in Glasgow on Friday, December 1.
