A FORMER Speyside man is poised to take the helm at one of Scotland’s largest children’s charities.

David Robb, who was brought up in Aberlour, will take up the role at Aberlour Children’s Charity at its AGM in September.

He joined the Aberlour Board in December last year after accumulating a wealth of relevant skills and knowledge. His first experience as a charity trustee was in 1988 when he was the founding chairman of a small youth charity. He has been passionate about the voluntary sector ever since.

From 2011-2019 Mr Robb was chief executive of the Scottish Charity Regulator, where he enjoyed working with a range of charity boards and trustees on improving governance and impact.

During that time he nurtured his interest in digital technology and in putting service users at the centre of design processes. Since January last year he has been the chief executive of the Student Awards Agency Scotland.

Mr Robb is married with two grown-up daughters, and his parents still live in Aberlour.

He replaces Val Surgenor who has decided to step down after having been chair of the board since 2014 and a member of the board of directors since 2009.

Mr Robb said: "It is a great honour and privilege to have been selected to succeed Val Surgenor as Aberlour’s next chair.

"These are very difficult times for many of Scotland’s children and young people, so the charity faces some big challenges. There are, however, huge opportunities too as we adjust to the ‘new normal’.

"Val will leave an impressive legacy, and we have a strong senior team in place. Aberlour has a long, proud history, and I look forward to working with our staff, volunteers and stakeholders and helping steer the charity through the next few years as we rise to the challenges together."

SallyAnn Kelly, chief executive of Aberlour, said: "In the period that David has been with Aberlour so far he has shown that he will be a great chair for Aberlour.

"We already have an array of skilled and committed contributors within the Aberlour board and David will complement and support their huge contribution to Aberlour. I look forward to working closely with David in his role as chair."
