Aberdeenshire residents encouraged to participate in Scottish Government food consultation

Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has encouraged residents to engage with the consultation on the Scottish Government’s Good Food Nation Plan, which aims to ensure everyone in Scotland can access nutritious, sustainable food.

The plan sets out the ways in which the Scottish Government will work with businesses and organisations across society to help connect people to locally produced, high-quality food; and transform the country’s food system.

The Scottish Government’s local food strategy, “Local Food for Everyone: Our Journey” also sets out how it can ensure that people have access to the best of Scottish produce.

This follows a lengthy consultation which found that local production improves diets, lowers food miles and retains value in communities.

Ms Martin said: “Scotland can be immensely proud of the food it provides to residents of Aberdeenshire; however, we can do better when it comes to the availability and sustainability of locally produced food.

“The Scottish Government’s Good Food Nation Plan outlines a vision of a more sustainable nation, and, more importantly, how we get there.

“Work at a local level will be crucial in achieving this, and as demonstrated by the Scottish Government’s local food strategy, it is so important that people across Aberdeenshire make their voices heard and participate in consultation events.

“By working together, we will ensure that everyone in Scotland can easily access high quality food and drink, benefitting from a more equitable and sustainable food system.”

Respondents can complete the consultation by email, post, or on Citizen Space at the https://consult.gov.scot/agriculture-and-rural-economy/national-good-food-nation-plan/ webpage.
