Tributes continue to pour in from all corners of the globe following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and closer to home, Aberdeenshire pays its respects.

Provost of Aberdeenshire, Judy Whyte, said: "It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

"The nation has lost its greatest ambassador, and throughout her reign she was an impeccable servant to the United Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth.

"She held Aberdeenshire very dear to her heart, and it is that relationship which will be remembered most fondly. It is fitting that she spent her final days on the Balmoral Estate, somewhere which was so special to her.

"Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time."

Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, Sandy Manson, Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire said:“We are so saddened by the news from Buckingham Palace and we all mourn the passing of

Her Majesty The Queen. The Queen was a constant support and inspiration in all our lives.

"In Aberdeenshire, we had a particularly close and enduring connection with the Queen and Balmoral was a treasured place for Her Majesty.

“The Queen was loved and admired throughout Aberdeenshire and none more so than by the communities of Deeside where she was their neighbour.

"We are glad that this was a place that she could come and relax with her family and friends and the people of Aberdeenshire.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family as we reflect on a long life of service and dedication to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also paid tribute to the Her Majesty, in a speech she said: "Like everyone across Scotland, the United Kingdom, indeed the world, I feel a deep sense of sadness on the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

"On behalf of the people of Scotland, I offer my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the King, the Queen Consort and to the entire Royal Family.

"There will be many opportunities in the coming days to reflect fully on the Queen's extraordinary life and service.

"For more than 70 years Queen Elizabeth has been the great constant in our national life. She has inspired us, on occasion comforted us and always personified values we hold dear.

"Throughout her reign she performed her duties with exceptional wisdom, dedication and fidelity.

"Scotland loved, respected and admired her and by all accounts Her Majesty was rarely happier than when she was here in Scotland at her beloved Balmoral, a fact I have been privileged to observe personally. I hope it will be a source of comfort to her family, that she spent her final days in a place that she loved so much.

"This is a moment of acute loss and profound sadness. It is also a moment of enormous significance, the passing of Queen Elizabeth marks the end of an era, our nation is in mourning.

"My heart and my thoughts, and I know those of people across Scotland, are with the Royal family at this deeply sad moment."

Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid said: "I join all my constituents in Banff and Buchan in sending my deepest condolences to the Royal Family at this very sad time.

"Her Majesty’s passing will be deeply felt by the whole nation and the Commonwealth.

"God Save the King."
