The Scottish Government has recently published a consultation on water, wastewater and drainage policy.

Its policy proposals are designed to protect our water, sewerage and drainage services; better understand the impacts of climate change on these services; and maximise the benefits that can be delivered for everyone.

In Aberdeenshire a large number of households in rural areas are connected to private supplies which are managed and maintained by the owners of the properties they serve.

The quality and quantity of the water they provide is covered by government legislation and is monitored by local authorities.

With this in mind, locals who are not on public water feeds are asked to add their comments to the consultation which closes on February 21 and can be accessed here.

Responses to the consultation will inform how water, wastewater and drainage services, including private supplies, can adapt to the impacts of climate change, including increased temperatures, drought and flooding.

The outcome of the consultation could inform potential changes to legislation.
