The Scottish Child Payment has been increased from £20 to £25 per week per child, meaning 3815 families in Aberdeenshire are set to receive a boost to their household incomes from the Scottish Government.

Eligibility for the payment, which is only available in Scotland, has also been extended, meaning eligible families with children under the age of 16 can now apply for the Scottish Child Payment.

Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin is encouraging families in the area to apply for the support.

Ms Martin said: “The Scottish Child Payment has made a real difference for families with children under six in Aberdeenshire.

"I very much welcome the Scottish Government’s decisive action, both in increasing the support from £20 to £25 and extending it to all eligible families with children under 16.

“Almost 4000 families in Aberdeenshire will already receive the increased Scottish Child Payment and now more families can access this support as it’s become available to families with children under 16.

"This support is needed now more than ever to help families get through the cost of living crisis.

“The Scottish Government is committed to delivering a social security system based on fairness, dignity and respect – that is why this support was introduced.

"I encourage families in Aberdeenshire to check their eligibility for the Scottish Child Payment and apply for the support."
