Following the emergency closure of the A947 on Tuesday while an inspection was carried out at Castleton Bridge to find the source of a water leak, a further closure is now set to take place on Tuesday, February 28.

Motorists should note that the A947 will be closed at Castleton Bridge for one day this Tuesday from 9.30am-3.30pm so Aberdeenshire Council carry out an inspection of the external walls of the structure using a hydraulic platform.

A spokesperson said: "Earlier this week we were able to identify the cause of an issue impacting the bridge involving a large volume of water emerging from neighbouring land and travelling underground about 150 metres to exit through the bridge which was quickly rectified and the road safely reopened.

"A diversion will again be in place via the A947 to B9105, B9105 to Woods of Byth, A98 to Macduff, A947 at Banff Bridge towards Turriff.

"We apologise for any inconvenience while our inspection takes place and please allow extra time for your journey if you need to use the diversion.

"It is important to stress that temporary traffic diversions during any road closure must be suitable for all traffic - including HGVs and buses – and we would encourage all motorists to use these at all times."
