OPENING hours at the ticket office at Huntly station are set to be reduced following a review by Scotrail.

As a result of the first comprehensive review of opening hours for 30 years, it is proposed that the ticket office will open at the earlier time of 6.50am Monday to Thursday, but shut at 11.15am. On Fridays it will open from just 11.30am until 1pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am until 1pm. It will continue to be closed on Sundays.

Train passengers at Huntly will increasingly find the ticket office unmanned.

Currently it opens at 7.05am and closes at 14.09 Monday to Saturday.

ScotRail say no members of staff will lose their job and the changes will deliver improvements for people travelling, and better meet the needs of rail users.

They claim the changes will reduce fare fraud and ticketless travel and mean new family friendly working hours and part time shifts.

Passengers with specific mobility or access needs will continue to be supported.

There has been a 50 per cent drop in the use of ticket offices over the past 10 years, with the pandemic quickening that pace of change.

Phil Campbell, head of customer operations, said: “With more than a 50 per cent drop in the use of ticket offices, heightened by the pandemic, we want to do everything we can to make sure everyone has a hassle-free journey.

"It is important to note that rather being about cutting jobs, this is about adding value for our staff and customers.

A 21 day consultation period runs from Wednesday, January 12, and feedback can be given by either writing to Transport Focus Freepost (RTEH-XAGE-BYKZ), PO Box 5594, Southend on Sea, SS1 9PZ or by email to schedule17.sr@transportfocus.org.uk
