The spring sun shone on what has been widely regarded as one of the best ever Newburgh Gala Days on Saturday, with a local P7 pupil leading the pack at its popular running event.

Hundreds of locals headed along to the Gala Day site in the town, where a wide range of stalls and activities were on offer.

This included climbing walls, a celebratory cake competition and an outdoor display from Wrestlezone.

They were joined by performers from Circus Alba along with Zorbs, Nerf Gun Wars and a wide range of food and drink offerings.

No Newburgh Gala would be complete however without the Castle Canter and this year a total of 123 participants took to the course which winds its way around the town.

Leading the pack home was P7 pupil Rachel Gove in a new course record of 12:59, beating the magical 13 minute mark and hot on her heels was fellow P7 Harry Chalmers on 13:02.

A spokesperson for the event said: "What an amazing day everyone had at the Gala and a huge thank you goes to all our brilliant sponsors, bakers, volunteers, burger/book/chocolate/bottle/raffle donors, stallholders and activity providers - without you there would definitely be no gala.

And, of course, a massive thank you to everyone who came out and supported the big day."
