CANCER charity CLAN's Light The North lighthouse trail officially kicked off tthis week with the unveiling of the 2.5m tall lighthouses across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
The event has been organised in partnership with Wild in Art, who helped deliver Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail in 2019.
Light The North aims to provide a “light in the dark” for those battling cancer and their families and this year is being supported for those out on the hunt for the artworks with a Light the North app which is now live.
Users can can collect lighthouses, unlock rewards, track progress, and share photos. Using the in-built map, they can plot a route and track down favourite lighthouses across the north-east and Northern Isles.
The app is now available to download from the App Store and Google Play via www.lightthenorth.co.uk/get-involved/app/
As well as the larger creations, the smaller little lights are also now in place at a number of north-east sites including the Garioch Heritage Centre where a total of 13 of the structures which were decorated by local schools and groups have taken up residence.
This includes creations from Primary schools in Kintore, Midmill, Alehousewells, Fyvie, Pitmedden, Kemnay, Strathburn, Insch, Oyne, Rayne North and Oldmeldrum along with Kemnay Academy and staff and supporters of the CLAN base in Inverurie.
