90th birthday and surprise proposal spark celebrations

A Banff family and their friends had double reason to celebrate when a 90th birthday also featured a surprise engagement.
Mabel Butler, of Whinhill Road, marked her 90th year with a gathering at the Banff Springs Hotel.
She was joined by family friends the Kay family and their daughter, Hanna, received a surprise when her boyfriend Nick Blair arrived at the event unexpectedly and proposed.
Her father Colin Kay said: “We have stayed with our friends in Banff for the past 30 years.
“Every year we visit them and their mother Mabel, who is born and bred in Banff, celebrated her 90th birthday.
“Hanna travelled from Dubai to celebrate the 90th birthday but unknown to her Nick had also flown on a separate flight and proposed to her at the Banff Springs Hotel.
“Hanna and Nick met while studying at Newcasle University and after going their separate ways, met just by chance a few years later in London, got together and moved to Dubai to live and work, where they have been for five years.
“Nick runs the Dubai Muscle Show, while Hanna works as a PA and in human resources at an international chemical company.
“It was fantastic day and was great to celebrate both occasions at the hotel in Banff.”
