Record high 51 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray within last week

FIFTY-ONE new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray since last week's update, taking the area's total since the outbreak to 360.

This is the highest weekly total Moray has seen. The previous weekly-high was 31, and there were 14 cases confirmed last week and the week prior.

Since December 15, 506 negative tests have been returned by Moray residents. That's an increase of 53 on the 453 returned last week.

There have been no more coronavirus-related deaths in Moray, with the total remaining at 22.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 6736 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 843 on the 5893 reported last week.

Moray neighbourhood update

Four areas in Moray have had at least three cases of the virus confirmed within the last seven days.

Elgin West and Bishopmill East and Ladyhill in Elgin have had nine confirmed cases of the virus between them.

Four cases have been confirmed in the Findhorn, Kinloss and Pluscarden Valley area, while there are three in Lossiemouth East and Seatown.

Scotland-wide update

Today's daily update shows 1190 people in Scotland have tested positive for coronavirus overnight, with 47 deaths of people who tested positive for the virus confirmed.

During the week ending December 23, 47,740 people were newly-tested with 7118 testing positive for the first time. The week prior, 39,024 people were newly-tested with 6066 positive.

Since the outbreak began, a total of 1,326,343 people in Scotland have been tested at least once, with 115,556 positive and 1,210,787 confirmed negative.

In the week ending December 20, 203 deaths were recorded where covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate. That takes the total number of deaths to 6298 across Scotland since the outbreak began. Of those, 4373 tested positive and died within 28 days.

A total of 56 people were in intensive care on December 22 in relation to covid-19. On the same day, 1025 covid-19 patients were in hospital.

In total, 8849 patients who have tested positive for covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5.
