Slater Court in Ellon is celebrating 40 years of being called home this week.

The sheltered housing facility opened in 1982, and at the time was the largest sheltered housing block in the area with 30 resident flats and two flats for wardens.

To celebrate the milestone, residents were treated to an afternoon tea with a delicious spread of sandwiches, scones, cakes and sweets.

Staff led a toast to “many years of health, friendship and fun”, and communal areas in the building were decorated with bunting and balloons to complete the celebratory atmosphere.

Of course no celebration is complete without a cake, and this time the cake was cut by two residents who have been calling Slater Court their home the longest, Mary and Marion.

A noticeboard in the hallway had also been given a historic twist for the occassion, with various newspaper clippings, job advertisements and photographs tracking the facility's history.

Situated on Schoolhill Road, Slater Court was officially opened in October 1982 by then councillor Robert Duncan.

The name was chosen in tribute to a former Ellon Academy headteacher , the late Eric Slater, who had passed away two years before the building was completed.
