Social care charity Community Integrated Care and Alford Primary Parent Council applied to the Aberdeenshire Charities Trust in a bid to get financial support for their projects.

The two applications, each seeking £2,000, were considered and unanimously backed by the Marr area committee on Tuesday (October 11).

Community Integrated Care will use their share of the cash to create an accessible garden at a property in Huntly.

The work will help residents to easily access and use the garden.

The social care charity will use its grant to hire a contractor to level out the ground before placing hardcore and slabs.

Meanwhile, Alford Primary Parent Council will put their grant towards enhancing outdoor learning at the school.

They will use the money to buy benches, a willow dome and a storage container.

The group also has plans to create a sensory garden in the school grounds.

Outdoor learning has already been introduced to older children at Alford Primary and has proved to be “positive and impactful”.

But it is hoped the new facilities will help to make outdoor learning accessible to youngsters of all ages for most of the year.
