Cup winning players who made up the Loco Works A team are set for a 50th anniversary reunion in celebration of their historic triumph.

In June 1972 the Inverurie Locos A became the first side from the north of Scotland to win the Scottish Juvenile Cup after defeating Glencairn 7-2 on aggregate in the final.

Having drawn the home leg at Heathryfold Park 2-2 they then went on to thrash their opponents 5-0 at Petershill Park.

George Mathers put the Railwaymen ahead before doubles from both James Davidson and Leslie Stuart secured victory for the visitors.

Following their success they were welcomed back triumphantly to the Hopeville Social Club on the Saturday evening which was packed out as fans clamoured to welcome the squad home.

On Sunday surviving members of the side are set to host a reunion at 2pm at Inverurie’s Black Bull Inn which has been organised by Judy Stuart, wife of Leslie.
