12 north-east events to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III

Saturday marks a historic date in the nation's history as King Charles III is crowned and across the north-east, events are taking place to celebrate the event.

Inverurie is having a huge family party to celebrate The King's Coronation, with live music, a pipe band, choirs, a mini funfair, stalls and food trucks.

On Saturday there is a variety concert at 7.30pm (£10) headlined by Kevin Littlejohn and a host of local acts.

Growing up in Aberdeenshire, Kevin performed in multiple shows, including several musicals at Inverurie Town Hall, where it became clear that he was destined for a future in the arts. Since completing his studies in Manchester, Kevin has carved out a career to include credits in London’s West End, UK and international tours, cruise ships and solo concerts. Most recently, you may have seen him performing in Inverurie Panto’s Dick Whittington as King Rat, though he’d forgive you for not recognising him!

A free community street part event, no tickets required takes place in the town centre on Sunday from 11am - 6pm.

Sunday also sees a Tea Dance from 2pm - 5pm (£6) in the town hall with music from Charlie Esson.

Banff - Banff Castle Coronation day, takes place on Sunday from noon - live entertainment, activties, competitions, food and drink.

Oldmeldrum - Coronation Tea on Sunday from 2pm - 4.30pm in the Market Square. Adults £10, children £5 under 5's free - tickets from local venues.

Kintore - Saturday there is a Coronation Street Party with live music, entertainment for the kids, drinks and bbq in Kintore square from 11am-5pm.

The ceremony will be screened at 11am at Kintore Church, and the raffle will be drawn at 3.45pm.

Methlick - A screening of ceremony will take palce at the Beaton Hall at 11am on Saturday.

Sunday sees a formal planting of the celebration rose by Lady Aberdeen at 12.30pm at the war memorial followed at 1pm by picnic (bring your own) at Village Hall and cricket pitch.

Ellon - Ellon Castle Gardens Fun Family Picnic plus local history with Ellon & District Historical Society. Entry £4, Members and children free on Sunday 11 -3pm.

Alvah - Community Picnic on Sunday from 11am -3pm - live music from 1.30pm. tickets from secretary.alvahforglencc@gmail,com. PArking at the hall and transfer by minibus.

Turriff - Saturday - Fundraising coronation themed coffee morning form 10am-noon at the Legion in aid of Legion funds. Sunday - Coronation Lunch at 12.30pm and 2pm at the Baden Powell Centre- tickets are free and are available from Traffords.

Ellon Legion on Saturday join members in the morning in the Bar area to watch the Kings Coronation. Bar area open at 10.30am, ceremony starts at 11am - complimentary glass of prosecco and nibbles (over 18s only) members and guests welcome In the evening there will be a Coronation disco from 8pm - 11.45pm with free entry - (over 18s only) members & guests welcome

On Sunday - King Charles III Family Street Party in the Main hall 1pm - 4pm. Bring your own picnic. Games, entertainment and raffle. Free entry however due to high demand will be ticket entry only, available behind the bar please pop in past to get tickets.

Lumsden - Lumsden Mary Fair, Sunday from 11am -2pm in celebration of the coronation. Picnic in the park (bring your own) kids races at 11.30am, stall holders, raffle, tombola.

Monymusk - Coronation cake in the hall, Sunday 11-1pm in aid of hall funds.

Buchanhaven - Buchanhaven Boat Shed will be open Saturday from 10.30am - 2pm to watch the event - tea and pancakes till 12.30, sandwiches from 12.30 -2pm.

Community picnic - at Creel Cottage, Harbour Street from 12pm - 2pm soup and puddings on offer with fancy dress competition and quiz.
