On Friday night a taxi driver in Mid Street was verbally abused and his car attacked by a gang of youngsters.

Police were called and a 16-year-old boy was arrested for misconduct. An 18-year-old male was later traced by officers and arrested.

Then in the early hours of Sunday morning the Stagecoach X10 bus from Aberdeen to Inverness pulled in to the bus stop at the square at 12.35am and passengers and the female driver were verbally abused and had rubbish, including bottles, thrown at them by a group of teenagers – thought to be aged between 10 to 14. They also jumped in front of the bus and kicked it as it drove off.

Local councillor and former police officer, Stewart Cree, said it was not the first time complaints had been made about youngsters congregating and intimidating people in the area.

He said: “They gather at the bus shelter and there have been numerous cases of them causing people distress and messing about jumping on the back of buses. The CCTV camera at the top of Mid Street does not cover the area by the bus shelter, unfortunately, and these kids know it.

He added that Moray Council would look at ways of trying to dissuade the youngsters from hanging around the bus shelter in the square.
