Traffic lights are in place on the A96 at Fife Keith.

Gas distribution company SGN has reassured residents that the Fife Keith area is safe as it deals with the incident.

It is not yet known how long the repair will take.

Bradley Barlow, SGN spokesperson, said: "We’re working to repair our gas network on the A96 in Keith, between the cemetery and train station.

"We would like to assure local residents we have carried out our investigations and the area has been assessed as being safe."

To keep the traffic flowing, the lights will be manually operated from 7am to 7pm.

"Our engineers will work to fix our network as quickly and safely as possible. However, it’s still too early at this stage to say how long it will take to complete our work."

He thanked drivers for their patience.
