A DISABLED man has hit out at the state of the pavements in Keith after an incident caused him to fall from his wheelchair onto the busy A96.
Don Ferguson, of Colvin Court, was left shaken when a wheel of his chair hit a pothole and he toppled over, leaving him lying half on the pavement and half on Church Road.
Mr Ferguson said: "It was raining and with the drains overflowing I was stuck in a stream of water. Badly shaken and wet, I managed after some assistance to be on my way home. I called the Keith surgery and it was suggested I make my way to casualty.
"I thought I was probably just shaken and there was nothing to worry about, but that night I was in a lot of pain and did not get much sleep.
"My thanks goes to the people who helped me. I was stuck and couldn’t get up as I landed on my weak side. It was encouraging that folk didn’t just walk past. Thanks also goes to the Health Centre for their care."
Mr Ferguson is still suffering in a lot of pain following his fall and his wheelchair is now damaged.
He said: "I depend on my wheelchair and the pavements in Keith are just a disgrace – there are potholes, uneven bumpy hills and a lack of drop kerbs in places. It is really frustrating.
