A CRACKDOWN on violent crimes saw over 60 people dealt with during a week of action Aberdeenshire and Moray.
The latest phase of Operation Sandside targeted violence-related crimes from May 8-14.
It was led by the divisional violence reduction unit and over 110 visits were made to licensed premises in towns and villages throughout the region, including Banff, Elgin, Inverurie, Stonehaven and Fraserburgh.
As a result of the operation 63 crimes of violence were cleared with 16 persons appearing in court from custody.
In addition, 10 people were arrested on warrant for violent crimes and breaking bail conditions.
Working closely with specialist teams and partners, including Aberdeenshire Council Licensing Standards Officers, Operation Sandside focuses primarily on dealing with violent offenders, but also on reducing offending through effective policing of licensed premises and hot spot areas.
Inspector Rob Sturton, from the divisional violence reduction unit, said: "Where crimes have been committed, it is important that offenders deal with the consequences of their actions, however preventing these crimes from happening in the first place is our clear focus.
"Whilst this was a concerted week of action, reducing violence is very much a part of our day-to-day business in our drive to keep people safe. Aberdeenshire and Moray is one of the safest places to live in Scotland, thanks in part to initiatives like Sandside and working hand-in-hand with partners and the local community."
