MORAY employers are being urged to consider taking on Modern Apprentices to support their business and provide youth employment opportunities.

The call comes ahead of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, which runs from May 18-22.

The Skills Development Scotland (SDS) campaign, now in its fifth year, highlights the benefits apprenticeships bring to employers, individuals and the economy.

SDS Head of Region for North Scotland, Anthony Standing, said: "Modern Apprenticeships bring benefits to employers of all sizes, from family firms to global companies.

"Last year there were 429 Modern Apprenticeship starts in Moray and more than 25,000 apprenticeships across Scotland.

"Modern Apprenticeships help to retain young people and support the local economy by anchoring skills and jobs in Moray.

"Apprenticeships also provide opportunities for employers to ensure their workforce has the right skills to support growth and development.

"It is easier than a lot of employers might think and Skills Development Scotland staff are on-hand to talk to them about the different types of apprenticeships, as well as the funding available.

Last year more than 160 events and activities took place during Scottish Apprenticeship Week, covering the length and breadth of the country.
