Abbie (12), from Grange, competed in the under-13 girls 3km race at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh on Saturday, January 7.

Kim Paterson, one of Abbie’s coaches at Keith Amateur Athletics Club, said: "Abbie did very well at the weekend. She completed the 3km course in a time of 14.37 minutes which in the slippery conditions is excellent.

A number of the other competitors had trainers with spikes on so a far better grip on the ground. The fastest runner completed in 10.59 so she was only three minutes behind the winner.
