The section lies to the west of Keith, between Mulben Junction and Newton of Forgie.

Following this weekend’s closure, the route will then be shut from 7.30pm-6.30am each night up to and including next Friday, which is May 4.

Amey, which is carrying the roadworks out on behalf of Transport Scotland, originally scheduled to have the roadworks finished today.

The £460,000 project will result in nearly half-a-mile being re-laid.

A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said: “The resurfacing will benefit nearly 7000 vehicles who use this route each day, creating a smoother ride for motorists and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.”

Previous diversions will remain in place during the extended closures.

Motorists going in the direction of Elgin will turn right onto the B9016 north of Keith, travel past the crematorium, then turn left onto the A98.

They will then re-join the A96 at Fochabers.

Traffic heading towards Huntly will take the route in reverse.
