Kintore's Christmas lights were officially switched-on on Sunday and the town is looking very festive.

The Kintore Fundraising Team organised the event and they are solely responsible for the Christmas lights in Kintore and the organisation exists purely to fund, erect and decorate the large Christmas tree in the Town Square and to maintain and mount/demount the Christmas lights (motifs) from the lampposts.

As well as this, they organise the much loved lights switch-on event, which took place on Sunday and is a wonderful occasion for the community to come together.

All children were gifted a selection box from Santa and the Kintore Pipe Band also performed.

Once again, this proved to be an extremely popular event with the residents, young and old and the lighting brings an enormous and positive impact to those passing through the village.

So much so that the lights were turned on a earlier in the month to show them to their full effect ahead of the official turn-on event.

All of this requires funding, which is arranged in various ways, such as by the Kintore Fundraising Team hosting stalls at the Kintore Summer Festival and the switch-on event itself and by having various collection boxes.

Hardworking volunteers, from those manning the stalls to those undertaking the very large amount of physical work involved, all do so free of charge.

A letter was sent out by the Kintore Fundraising Team in December last year and the required target for this year's switch-on was met in February thanks to the generosity of donations from individuals and businesses.

Commenting on this year's switch-on, Ryan McMillan of the Kintore Fundraising team said: “Despite the bad weather at the weekend, we still had a great turn out for the switch-on and our switch-on kids Riley Anderson from Midmill School and Katie and Euan Morrison, brother and sister from Kintore School, had a great time turning the tree on, with the crowd counting down to the big switch-on.”
