Officers from the Garioch Community Policing Team have been working with local school children to improve road safety and this week visited one of the smaller rural schools in the area.

Pupils from Fintray Primary School along with local officers carried out speed checks outside their school.

This saw a number of drivers stopped for speeding and as an alternative to prosecution given the opportunity to speak to the children about the potential impact of speeding near schools.

Local Policing sergeant Rachael MacLennan said: "Road Safety is a priority for us and this is an excellent way of engaging with children and drivers to educate them as to the risks of speeding in general and in particular near to schools.

"Eight drivers were stopped and spoken to in regards to speeding.

"The children all enjoyed working with us and really enjoyed giving 'thumbs up' to the majority of drivers who were obeying the speed limit."
