A fundraising birthday party in memory of her late husband who passed away after a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) enabled Pamela Whyte to raise £2000 for two charities.

Funds raised at the event which was held at The Drouthy Laird in Inverurie will be spilt between the Teenage Cancer Trust and Friends of Anchor which are charities close to her heart.

Glenn, from Inverurie, passed away aged 26 in March last year, just six weeks after marrying Pamela.

He was first diagnosed with AML in December 2017.

Although he went into remission before having a bone marrow transplant in May 2018, the cancer returned in September.

Then in January last year, he and his family were given the heartbreaking news that nothing more could be done and his illness was terminal.

The couple tied the knot in the Episcopal Church at Oldmeldrum before celebrating with family and friends at Meldrum House Hotel.

She told the Advertiser: “My husband died last year and we were a bit unsure about turning it into something positive by celebrating his birthday.

“Let’s try to give something back and get his friends and family together to have a few drinks and share the good times.

“It was a good mix of celebrating his birthday and raising money for charity.

“It was difficult, being so close to his birthday, but his family and friends all support and keep an eye on one another.

“We raised around £2000 from the fundraiser.” Pamela hailed the charities’ support throughout the difficult times.

Friends of Anchor directly supports cancer and haematology care through fundraising for the Anchor Unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

She added: “Teenager Cancer Trust are still here for me and his family to this day keeping an eye on us.

“Then Friends of Anchor also support the ward he stayed in helping those who are there.

“He was getting endless supplies of ice lollipops which was great.

“I know that sounds so small but when he couldn’t eat it helped a lot.”

She has launched a fundraising page to raise even more money for the charities that have been a great help to her and said: “We want to raise as much as possible to help others as well and everyone was so generous that we raised £1650 at his funeral last May and I wanted to get to that total again.

“The more we raise the more they can do.”
