He said: "North East Division has launched Operation Magpie to target acquisitive crime and officers are focused on targeting offenders.

"However we would ask that you do all you can to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of crime

"Firstly ensure your property be it your home, shed, garage or car is locked even when you are at home. Don’t leave any house or car keys near your front door. Don’t store valuables in your car or near a window of your house.

"Please remain vigilant and if you see anything unusual or suspicious in your neighbourhood report it to us. Let us decide whether there is cause for concern."

If anyone has any information about the housebreaking they can contact police on 101.
