VANDALS have again targeted Huntly.
At least £4,000 worth of damage was caused to four cars in the Nelson Street area.
This follows substantial damage caused to the floral displays in The Square.
This has led to renewed calls for CCTV in the square.
However, the police sergeant behind a drive to have CCTV installed claims the plan has all but been killed off.
Two concrete bricks, thought to have been taken from the site of a house under construction nearby, were found lying in the car park. Car owners Joyce and Alan Dunbar only learnt of the vandalism when they were visited by police.
Mrs Dunbar said: "My silver Kia is just a year old. We worked hard and saved hard to buy it and now it has its windscreen smashed and paintwork damaged which we have been told could cost £1,500 to repair. It will likely put up our insurance having a claim and it is just hassle."
Sgt Andy Sawers said: "It was clearly just pure vandalism as there were valuables in the cars which were untouched. This is a second weekend of vandalism in Huntly but without CCTV, it is very hard to detect those responsible."
He said the only way the town could get CCTV was if the business community and local people joined forces in a concerted campaign.
