Aberdeenshire Conservative and Unionist Association has chosen local farmer’s wife and retired teacher Margo Stewart to contest the election for the vacancies created by the death of SNP councillor Joanna Strathdee and the resignation of Liberal Democrat Alastair Ross.

Mrs Stewart, who lives at Cocklarchy, has been a committed member of the community for years through her involvement with Macmillan Cancer Support, as a supply teacher and current SQA chief invigilator at The Gordon Schools.

She said: "For many years I have worked willingly within the community. I believe this is extremely important, as the only way we can learn how to improve our local area is by becoming involved."

The by-election is on Thursday, November 5.
