A LAMB is proving to be just what the doctor ordered for therapy for residents of Balhousie Care Home at Huntly.

Robbie, named after Scotland’s national bard because he made his first visit to the home on Burns’ birthday, elicits a response from the most withdrawn of residents, many of whom are transported back in time to their childhood spent growing up on farms and feeding pet lambs.

Fitted out with a disposable nappy to avoid messy accidents, Robbie is the most pampered of pet lambs as he sits on residents’ knees while they give him a bottle and cuddles galore.

Brought to Balhousie by farmer’s wife June Robertson from Rothiemay, Robbie is proving to be far more popular than the rabbits, guinea pigs and hedgehogs previously brought in for pet therapy.

This is the second year that lambs have been taken to the home.
