A RAIL improvement programme announced this week by Scots Transport Minister Derek Mackay will benefit commuters from Huntly and Insch.

In 2018, ScotRail will introduce 70 new services in the north-east as part of a bigger scheme of 200 new services which will provide 20,000 more seats per day.

Early morning and late evening trains will be introduced between Aberdeen, Huntly and Insch when the new services come on stream. The extra capacity will also create a half hourly service between Aberdeen and Inverurie and an hourly service across Aberdeen city, between Inverurie and Montrose, stopping at all stations.

The timetable improvements are the result of the Scottish Government’s decision to retain 13 trains, 39 carriages, beyond the terms of their current leases, due to end in 2018, following the introduction of refurbished inter-city trains.

For reaction to this boost see the Huntly Express on Friday.
