Sergeant Malcolm Kinross of the Divisional Road Policing Unit said: "At this sad time our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the male involved. This was a distressing incident and those who witnessed it have been deeply affected.
"Although we have spoken to a number of people so far, I would urge anyone who was on the A96 road around this time near Colpy to contact us so we can help piece together exactly what has happened. "Similarly, anyone who may have seen the pedestrian beforehand is urged to get in touch with Police via 101."
