THE National Trust for Scotland has reported its busiest Easter ever.

Young visitors helped swell the numbers at National Trust properties.
Young visitors helped swell the numbers at National Trust properties.

Almost 31,000 children took part in its Cadbury Easter Egg Trails from April 3-6 - an increase of over 11 per cent on last year’s numbers.

Trails took place at the charity’s properties all over Scotland from countryside, to glorious gardens, historic battlefields, castle, palaces and houses large and small.

Several properties saw huge increases on last year with Castle Fraser, Craigievar Castle and Leith Hall in Aberdeenshire all reporting increases of almost 50 per cent compared to the Easter weekend in 2014, but sites were busy all over Scotland.

Marketing manager Carly Lamberty leads on the Trust’s Easter programme.

She said: "It was fantastic to see so many families out enjoying our beautiful properties over the Easter weekend. This is our eighth year in partnership with Cadbury and our Easter Egg Trails are now well-established as a must-do for anyone looking for Easter fun.

"It’s a great start to our visitor season, but it is just the start. There are so many events and activities planned for visitors of all ages at our sites this summer."

Cadbury also made a donation of £10,000 to the Trust to help with its work to repair footpaths.
