HUNTLY Hairst, a community celebration of farming and food, is to be cut back to one day.

The decision to drop the Sunday programme at the mart was made reluctantly when the organising group met and acknowledged that there were not enough volunteers to run the two-day event.

Hairst in its new one-day format, centred around a huge Farmers’ Market in The Square will take place on Saturday, September 5.

Volunteers are needed to help make the Saturday event happen this year and in the longer term the core group who organise Hairst recognise that it is vital to expand its membership.

Mike Davies, chairman of the group, said: "We would also be pleased to hear from anyone who might like to stage an event on either the Saturday or Sunday."

Anyone interested in becoming involved with Hairst should contact Lynn Rutter, secretary on 01466 720274 or email lynncrutter@aol.com or Mike Davies on 01464 861535 or email mike@integrawebdesign.co.uk
