The food bank has operated from premises at the rear of the Bargain Box thrift shop in Gordon Street since late November.

Statistics from the group show that from April 2014 to the end of March this year, 143 vouchers from the Huntly, Strathbogie and Howe of Alford area were processed to feed 304 people.

The items which the food bank in Huntly is currently low in stocks of are: jars of tomato pasta sauce; 500 gramme bags of sugar; litre cartons of UHT milk or dried milk; tins of vegetables; tins of spaghetti hoops and cartons of juice – the concentrated ‘fresh’ juice from the shelf, not the chill cabinet.

Food bank co-ordinator Debbie Parry said: "It would be great if people who already donate could focus on these items and if there are people out there who have not yet donated, this could be an opportunity to help us get the items we need."

The food bank is open each Tuesday from 10am until noon and on Fridays between 1pm and 3pm.

Donations can be dropped off via the rear entrance to Bargain Box in Torry Street and people who donate via their churches are urged to continue.
