THE time has come to begin the search for mysterious, colourful little creatures which will soon take over the centre of Huntly.

Time to start bug hunting.
Time to start bug hunting.

However, this particular infestation of bugs is the welcome kind and could net some lucky young readers a windfall of super prizes.

The Huntly Express summer bug hunt will get underway this Monday, July 4.

Our fluffy, bug-eyed mascots will be taking up residence in 33 local shops and business for the duration of the summer school holidays.

All you have to do is explore the town centre to find each of the bugs and correctly state which coloured bug you find in each of the windows.

Our chief reporter Pat Scott has come up with some handy clues to help you identify all the shops and offices taking part in the bug hunt – the rest is up to you.

Katherine Brewer, our front office administrator, has been busy liaising with the local business community and we have fabulous prizes worth more than £200 up for grabs for the winners.

You can get your mum and dad, grannies and grandpas involved in the fun.

Don’t worry if you are away for part of the holidays because you have a full six weeks to complete the task, so there is plenty of time.

At the end of the challenge – the last day for entries is Friday, August 12 – we will go through them all and all the correct entries will be in line to win the prizes.

The Huntly Express would like to thank all the shops and businesses who have supported our summer bug hunt.

The main aim is for our younger readers to have some fun but we also want to help promote the many wonderful shops and businesses there are in Huntly.

You can pick up an entry form from the forms in many of the bug hunt businesses - Divine Beauty, Rizzas, The Larder, Gordon Largue, RS McColl, Cruickshanks, Orb Bookshop, The Linden Tree, The Ethical Gift Shop, Sinclairs Bakery, J & I Smith Bakers, Duke Street Pharmacy, The Huntly Express, The Digital Croft, Picture Framing Workshop, Tom & Craigs, Fred Watt Jeweller, RA & J Bruce Newsagent, Indigo, Solo, Watt Ironmongers, Huntly Carpets, Nickle & Dime, Costcutter, Just Hair, Rhind Butcher, Raeburn Butcher, Cassie’s Hair & Beauty, Huntly Fish and Chip Shop, Strathbogie Flooring, Huntly Fabrics, TD Barbers, Jackies.

Happy bug hunting!
