Huntly butcher off to New Zealand

A HUNTLY butcher is heading to the other side of the world for a meaty challenge.

Gary Raeburn will fly the flag for Scotland as the only Scottish member, and one of the youngest, in the UK team at the Tri-Nations Butchers’ Challenge. He was selected following a rigorous interview and practical demonstration assessment.

Twice winner of the Scottish Butcher of the Year title which he continues to hold, Scottish Young Butcher of the Year on two earlier occasions and UK Young Butcher of the year winner, Gary, will travel to Auckland in New Zealand in September.

The talented local butcher, the third generation in the family business of Forbes Raeburn and Son, was encouraged to apply to be part of the team by the Scottish Meat Trades Federation.

Gary said: "It is something entirely different and will undoubtedly be a fantastic experience. It progresses on from what I have done before but we will just have to see how it goes."
