HUNTLY and District Development Trust (HDDT) is closer to financial sustainability than almost any other development trust in Scotland, members were told at the annual meeting.

The trust is behind the Greenmyres community farm project.

And in the wider world of development trusts, recognition of HDDT’s achievements has resulted in representatives being invited as keynote speakers at the Development Trust Association of Scotland’s annual conference. HDDT also has a place on Community Energy Scotland’s board.

Membership of HDDT rose by 15 per cent over the year but the goal is for an even larger increase in the coming year, particularly targeting younger members.

Chairman Richard Hammock said that it had been a very busy and productive year for HDDT, with real progress made towards long-term financial sustainability.

"Financial sustainability is a primary strategic goal of all development trusts, to be able to generate their own funding and to have unrestricted money to invest in their local community according to local needs and priorities," he explained.
