Aberdeenshire votes to remain in EU but Brexit looming

ABERDEENSHIRE has voted to remain in the European Union, however, a Brexit is looking likely with voters in England and Wales voting to leave.
In Aberdeenshire people voted 55% (76,445 votes) to remain, with 62,516 votes to leave the EU. There was a 70.6% turnout.
In Moray there were 24,114 votes to remain in the EU, with 23,992 people voting to leave.
That was a narrow 50.1% vote to remain, 49.9% to leave the EU.
The picture across Scotland was one of a vote to remain in the EU, while results elsewhere in England and Wales favoured leaving the European Union.
In Aberdeen City the vote was 61.1% to remain with 63,984 votes. The leave vote was 40,729 votes (38.9%).
With just five of the Scottish counts left to declare at 3.29am, the number of voters for remain was 1,253,284 with leave votes 777,954.
The result in Highland was 56% for remain with 70,308 votes, and leave voters totalling 55,349 votes.
At 4.38am the national picture was the Leave campaign on 12.8 million votes, with Remain on 12 million, a 52-48% split.
Gordon MP Alex Salmond said on Twitter: "Scotland votes remain; 62% vote in favour of staying in the EU, with all local authorities backing ‘Remain’."
Moray MSP Richard Lochhead said on Twitter: "Incredible divergence between Scotland with big Remain vote and results in rest of UK."
All 32 consituencies in Scotland voted to remain in the EU.
