160 children attend Huntly Castle launch of book set there, The Boy, the Witch and The Queen of Scots by Barbara Henderson
SCORES of Huntly children attended the launch of a book at Huntly Castle — one set in the very same ruins.
On Thursday, April 18, 160 kids made the trip to the historic site from Gordon Primary for the launch of The Boy, the Witch and the Queen of Scots.
While enjoying readings from the book, set partially at Huntly Castle, Kurt Kageler and John Barrie from the Huntly Falconry Centre allowing kids to get up close and personal with the birds and children were taken on mini tours of the castle.
Written by Barbara Henderson, the Scottish Book Trust named the Luath Press-published novel May’s Book of the Month.
The story, based on real events during the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots, is told from the perspective of a young falconer boy based in Huntly who is sent to the court of the Queen to spy on her for his master — the 4th Earl of Huntly.
After the event, Barbara said: “The book launch went well, with 160 kids from Gordon Primary School attending.
“Kids also enjoyed readings from the brand-new book in the great hall where the infamous 4th Earl of Huntly entertained his guests, and mini tours of the castle, provided by Historic Environment Scotland staff and volunteers.”
