THE annual Fairtrade open house event at Bonnyton Farmhouse welcomed a record number of supporters this year.

The shopping event ran for five days at the Pitmedden home, with sales totalling more than £7000.

Organisers have estimated that around 350 people attended the event, which offers the opportunity to meet other ethical shoppers while kick starting Christmas shopping.

Home owner and organiser Anne Aspden said: “We had a very successful five days, breaking all previous records by selling a staggering £7350 to about 350 people and collecting £250 in donations for Traidcraft exchange.

“Many of our regular visitors commented that the Fairtrade sale marks the start of their Christmas preparations.

“Others, who were here for the first time, were heard to say ‘so glad to find a place where I can find so many Fairtrade goods, and enjoy browsing’ and ‘this is such a lovely way to meet friends and share a taste of justice’.”

The event offers a range of Fairtrade products, including food, decorations and gifts like jewellery.
