Thursday, March 2 saw nurseries and schools up and down the country join in the fun, with the Portgordon pupils having a fantastic day.

Both the children and staff got into the spirit of things by dressing up as a character from their favourite book.

There were some colourful and inventive creations to behold as the kids gave free rein to their talents.

World Book Day was created by Unesco on April 23, 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading.
