A ONE-woman music show is just one of the varied acts set to feature this week for Aberdeen Performing Arts at the Music Hall.

Shears promises an evening of eclectic music.
Shears promises an evening of eclectic music.

The True North Sessions features Shears, who writes, records, produces and mixes electronic music at home in Leith, Edinburgh, and then figures out how to play them live. Having moved on from the early days of building upon piano-driven demos, the writing and production process are now simultaneous, and nobody (not even Shears) knows what the next song will sound like.

Influences include Grimes, Caribou, Georgia and Marina. Live shows are a one-woman solo set-up, incorporating samples, percussion, synths and effects, along with live vocals.

Hosting the show is the hall's Big Sky Studio at 6pm. Tickets cost £11 and include a pint, a glass of wine or a soft drink. They are available from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, phone (01224) 641122 or visit the box office at His Majesty’s Theatre or the Music Hall.

Sarcasm, silliness and songs will all feature in Ignacio Lopez's show.
Sarcasm, silliness and songs will all feature in Ignacio Lopez's show.

The following day is the turn of Spain's best export Ignacio Lopez (star of Live At The Apollo, The Now Show, Stand-Up Sesh and more) to shine. During his show he scrutinises his immigrant upbringing and family tree in a relentlessly funny show about clashing cultures and never fitting in.

In 2009, from his derelict flat in South Wales, Ignacio scored tickets to see his favourite band, Nine Inch Nails, in Los Angeles, unfortunately he didn’t have money, transport, or a place to stay. Sharing his biggest failures with a hilarious, globe-trotting story about music, comedy, and cock-ups, Ignacio skewers Britain and Spain with an armada of sarcasm, silliness and songs.
