Volunteer mentors wanted to help tackle youth loneliness in Moray

AN appeal for volunteer mentors to help young people in Moray combat loneliness and isolation has been launched.

Charity Aberlour Youth Point are looking for people who would be prepared to spend some time with young people facing these issues.

Volunteer mentors are matched with a young person who they would spend regular time with on a one-to-one basis, building a trusting relationship.

People who prefer interacting in a group setting can consider becoming a group support volunteer. This involves working alongside another member or members of the team to assist with group activities including arts, crafts, cooking, sports, music which can help to improve the health and wellbeing or our young people.

The target group for Aberlour Youth Point is 12 to 25-year-old young people affected by a range of issues that have a negative impact on their wellbeing. The service welcomes referrals for young people who are experiencing difficulties with the transition from school to the world of work, training or further education. Common reasons for referral include victim of bullying, engaging in anti-social behaviour, affected by others' substance misuse, not having a positive peer group and those struggling to cope with homelessness or having difficulty adjusting to having their own tenancy.
