Tragedy as kayaker found dead in River Spey

POLICE are investigating after a man was found dead in the River Spey yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

It is believed that he had been kayaking on the river.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 4.45pm on Sunday, July 17 to a report of a capsized kayak on the River Spey near Fochabers.

“Emergency services attended and a 51-year-old man was recovered from the water and pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

It is understood that both the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the Scottish Ambulance service and the Coastguard and the Coastgaurd were also in attendance at the incident.
